Don't really know where to begin and which deserves more priority but a humble attempt to list the longings, the stuff I really miss about Mumbai... things that give Mumbai its features... things that cannot be found dicto anywhere else in the world... that one has to experience in Mumbai to feel the real Mumbai.
So here's my must-try-in-Mumbai list-
- calling Mumbai-Bombay.
- the mouth-watering chats, especially the paani-puris n sev puris, my favorite being the one near Shelter apartments, Air India colony, Kalina coz thats the nearest to my place, but you'd find good ones at Juhu and other places I might not know of.
- the road-side kulfi guys...can you beat getting kulfi which has no water added in it (or maybe less water) and loads of flavors for just Rs5-10!
- gollaas!!! Love the ones at Vashi, near the mini-seashore.
- bargaining for fresh prawns with the local folks who fish for them in the evenings along the mini-seashore at Vashi.
- having hot kanda bhajias on a rainy day.
- shopping at Hill Road, Linking Road, Fashion Street, Crawford Market, Colaba, Santacruz West and Lokhandwala and ofcourse the bargaining without which the shopping wouldn't be as much an experience.
- the A/c bus rides from all over to all over, especially the ones from Bandra to Churchgate.
- the auto-rickshaw rides with all the bumps including the racing of your heart which would definitely be competition to the auto-rickshaw driver.
- a walk or just spending some quiet time along with Ben on a cloudy day at Bandra Reclamation, Carter Road, Marine Drive or Worli Seaface.
- an evening boatride at Churchgate and enjoying the breathtaking view of Bombay.
- the airshows at Worli Seaface which many more people in Mumbai need to experiece.
- the late night show at Sterling and then racing for the last train which leaves before the movie even ends-almost always!
- the train home-not so crowded but crowded enough for you to squeeze into the fourth person seat. (though the seats can occupy just three people-thats the speciality of the Mumbai Railways)
- the long drives through the clouds during the monsoons on the Mumbai-Pune Express Highway.
So if you are in Mumbai for the first time or know someone visiting Mumbai for the first time, a few of these things are a must-try to savor the taste of Mumbai.
